Streetfood was born in 2004 by an idea of Massimiliano Ricciarini further to a research project for a University Master Class activated by the Arezzo seat of Siena University called "Le Rotte del Gusto" (Taste Routes) for experts in food and wine tourism and mass media communication of ancient foods and niche products. The research dealt with a catalogue of ancient foods within four central Italian regions: Toscana, Umbria, Romagna and Marche. By that catalogue a research in the whole national territory followed and gave birth to a former verison of the website www.streetfood.it.
In 2005 the "Streetfood" brand mark was registered.
In his activity of journalist, researcher an author of texts for food and wine books the author of web site Massimiliano Ricciarini along with passionate people all over Italy gave birth to a homonyme No-Profit Association to which he allowed the free use of brand Mark.
The Association was born officially and legally in february 2008.
The activity of Association - The streetfood is a culture to be recovered by the right project that could see it inside a market such as you are always used to know it and lived it. As the best cheese cannot bear in aseptic conditions thus the Street food cannot avoid street and social life where it was born. Thus, although the Association recovers ancient traditions and disappeared foods or in the way to estinction, it is also supposed to follow different paths but they are all referred to common purposes: a valid and sustainable alternative to globalization, a tool for socialization, a mean to be an entrepreneur and communicate to young people in a young way. In order to be part of a system along with Italian and foreign lands by involving institutions and associations that could share the mission, the Streetfood Association is available to intervene in congresses and eventis in which its presence is requested and to set up its own moments of reflection and promotion dedicated to "Street Food Friends" and to all those who wish to participate and associate.
The Research - Some research projects of Italian cultural and handicraft traditions cab be set by Master Classes and post-degree courses, Universities and workshops of any age and school study plan along with Association. The students can read text books and can interview those people who still nowadays have got historical memories. By those researches the Streetfood® Association with public and private characters can publish books where such cultural traditions can be known.
Food Education - By those instruction and specialization centres the Association wants to work with teaching modules for a sensibilization to taste and preservation of such food and handicraft cultural traditions with the purpose of granting even a passage of a hypothetic "baton" from one generation to another. In the life cycle of people (since 6 to19 years old) there are many moments in which criticisms in its food education bear out: at breakfast time, brunch and snack time, at the end of school time and during nutrition at home. Thus, during the life, even the most traditional snacks have disappeared.
Promotion - The Streetfood Association wants to make projects for diffusion and promotion of lands and activities of food and wine and handicraft. Streetfood brandmark® will be a distintive shape for quality and genuineness more and more recognizable and recognized and not a way to homologate habits and tastes of our "boot shaped nation". Streetfood® is a registered name and brandmark and will be cared and protected and its use is given free only to Association. Any abuse will be punished according to law.
Food and Wine tourist guide - Besides of tourist guide the Association wants to introduce and affirm the human figure of tourist-food and wine guide who both can show artistic and architectural beauties of a land enriched by historical- cultural data and even certain food and wine elements referring to streetfood and its evolution.
Handicraft - Besides of promoting Street Foods and Kitchens the Association cannot forget the "job tools" taht are those iron, ceramics and refractarious instruments that for the past have been given shape and sense to culture and tradition of "Streetfood"
